The State of Gujarat has seceded from the Greater Mumbai (Maharashtra) State on May 1, 1903 and has come into existence as a new state. Rank officers were appointed. Later in the year 19 this post has been upgraded and a new post has been renamed as Director General of Police and Chief Police Officer.
Importance of DG & IGP as Head of State Police Department:
The office of the Director General of Police is the main focal point of the Police Department and the Director General of Police and the Chief Police Officer are the Chief of Gujarat Police. Adherence to and enforcement of all government policies, orders, directives and instructions as well as orders from time to time from the Home Department as well as other necessary instructions relating to the Police Department, local orders and necessary instructions on maintaining law and order in the State. All the procedures to be done, to enforce the discipline are done by the office here Adjustment is made.
According to Police Manual Part-II, the main responsibility for maintaining law and order and controlling crime lies with the Director General of Police. The police department has been placed under the control of the Home Department.
- DG & IGP Office Responsibilities:
A Director General of Police (Law and Order) has been appointed to maintain law and order in the office of the Director General of Police. Their main function is to inspect and carry out all issues related to law and order as per the guidance of the Director General of Police. In addition, DIG (Law and Order) has been appointed, who is working under the guidance of the Director General of Police (Law and Order) on law and order and crime.
Additional Director General of Police (Administration) has been appointed for ease of administration and supervision. Under whose direct supervision A-1, A-2, B, E, Budget, Accounting, Pension, F, M, JMT, Registry, Record, P.R.O. Etc. branches are located. From where the administrative as well as financial operations of the office are done.
